Reconomy team join Balfour Beatty VINCI for volunteering at local allotment
Last month, the Reconomy team who work closely with Balfour Beatty VINCI, supported volunteering at a Birmingham-based allotment and provided free-of-charge disposal of waste.
Kayleigh Fone and Lynette Butlin from Reconomy supported their customer Balfour Beatty VINCI with a day of volunteering at Northleigh Road Allotments in Birmingham for four hours. The team dug up around the allotment border to plant new trees, as well as digging up heavily buried brambles around the area. The team worked alongside HS2’s environmental team to support clearing the space ready for its development into a picnic area.
In addition to the volunteering, a couple of bags of waste asbestos had been produced which needed safe removal. Reconomy, as part of this initiative, provided free-of-charge collection and disposal of this waste.
Donna Tregenza, Balfour Beatty VINCI’s Waste and Resources Coordinator, said: “We’re grateful to Reconomy for their valuable support during a recent volunteering day at the Northleigh Road Allotments, on a very rainy and windy day!
“Together, we planted trees and hedges, cleared litter, and organised the removal of hazardous waste that’d been fly-tipped there. It’s great to know our suppliers have the same values towards our communities as we do. We can’t wait to go back in the near future to see how our trees are growing!”
Jamie Roberts, Reconomy Director of Managed Services commented: “As a business, Reconomy is hugely proud of the work we do around social value. With our award-winning social value programme, RSVP, we welcome opportunities to support local communities via initiatives we run or through those our customers run and invite us to. It is fantastic to see members of the team getting involved in volunteering and helping to give something back to the local community.”
