CARE Construction Challenge 2013

The CARE Construction Challenge is a gruelling 12 mile run, 15 mile bike ride and 1.2 mile kayak around Lake Wimbleball at Exmoor National Park. If that’s not tough enough there are some mental challenges too thrown in for good measure!
With over 40 teams entering in teams of 2, 3 or 4 people, the Reconomy Team were up against some stiff competition let alone the scorching temperature of 28 degrees!

The groups were split into two with the first group tackling the 12 mile run and the second group taking on the bike ride and kayak.
Reconomy had been drawn in the second group and feared the worst with teams such as Topcon looking like they had arrived straight from the Tour de France.
After a demanding bike ride over hills and varying terrain, broken up only with a 1.2 mile kayak across Lake Wimbleball, the team successfully completed the first stage of the challenge in “good” time.
After a quick pit-stop the Teams were called through for the safety briefing for the run. Before long we were climbing what looked and felt like Ben Nevis as the size of the challenge really began to take hold.
Having spent what felt like an eternity on the mental challenges (which gave us a welcome break in the midday sun) we eventually completed the whole event in a respectable 6 hours and 7 minutes finishing 21st out of 38 teams.

Reconomy would like to say a huge thank you to CARE International who not only made the day a fantastic experience but also put a huge amount of time and effort behind the scenes prior to the day.
Additional thanks go out to all our friends, family, colleagues, customers and suppliers that donated towards the cause. Whilst we have raised a modest £2000, the event itself has raised over £70,000 for CARE International which is a huge achievement.
Our just giving page is still open and if you would like to sponsor us it’s not too late!
