I love malted milk biscuits, but I’m on a diet, so they’re a rare treat!
How long have you worked at Reconomy?
I joined the Reconomy team in February of this year, and the first few months have flown by. I’ve found my feet very quickly, which is great because I thrive on having a packed business diary. It’s been an ideal time to join Reconomy because I’ve been able to throw myself into a couple of major projects straightaway, such as helping to develop a dedicated outbound telesales team.
What are your core responsibilities?
My main responsibility is to help drive new acquisition sales for the National Service Team, which primarily focuses on SME construction companies. It’s extremely fast-paced and every customer arrives with their own unique set of challenges and requirements, so it’s down to me to make sure these are not only met, but exceeded whenever possible.
Another core responsibility of mine is to manage the newly formed outbound telesales team and make sure they are happy and hitting their KPIs. When my team is performing well, I always make a point of communicating their achievements to the wider business, so that they fully receive the credit they deserve.
I’m also working to expand the services that we provide to our existing customers, as many don’t realise how diverse our service offering is and that we can help them with a lot more than just traditional skip hire.
How do you make a difference everyday?
My role requires a considerable amount of day to day liaison in account handling and management. It’s my responsibility to make sure that customers are happy and getting the service they require. This investment time is crucial, because happy customers are more likely to work with us again and recommend us to others. Because I work in sales, the reputation of the company I work for is very important to me, so I want to make sure we are always going above and beyond for our customers.
How is the changing face of the waste industry directly impacting upon Reconomy and your job role?
The issue of on-site vs off-site segregation remains a much debated topic within the waste industry. Though both offer pros and cons, there are many factors that should be considered before a decision is made “ cost, time and space can all play a part. One of the many unique benefits of the National Service Team is that we don’t just process orders, we can help customers to identify what solution is going to be the most cost-effective and advise them accordingly.
What did you do before you joined Reconomy?
I’ve worked in sales-orientated roles for over 15 years now, with much of that time spent in the utilities sector. Waste Management was not a sector that I knew very much about before joining Reconomy, so I’m still on a steep learning curve.
My last job was at the National Training Council, which provides government-funded training courses to businesses, covering things like customer services and management training. Before that I worked for a company called Teleperformance, who help leading companies such as npower, NatWest and Carphone Warehouse to improve their sales and customer service experience.
What one possession could you never live without and why?
I love getting out and about, but I can’t stand using public transport, so for this reason the one thing I could never live without is my car. One of my hobbies is also buying and selling cars.
What is the best thing about your job?
I feel very fortunate to be working at Reconomy. It’s a great feeling to be at a company where there is so much positivity about the future. Though I’ve only been here for a few months I’ve already witnessed first hand that the company is expanding rapidly, which creates more opportunities for progression and personal development. Many of my new colleagues have worked at Reconomy for years and years, so that speaks volumes about the culture of the business.
