Reconomy celebrates Recycle Week with companywide competition
Reconomy is celebrating Recycle Week 2019, the annual campaign hosted by Recycle Now between September 23rd and September 27th, by hosting an intern competition for all of members of staff. The competition ties in with the Recycling Week theme; “Recycling. It’s in our own hands”, by calling on all employees to showcase their best recycling tips and current practices.
Sales and Service Co-ordinator of Reconomy, Heather Rhodes, was the winner the competition, offering some excellent gardening tips to encourage recycling. Heather uses the inners of old toilet rolls for growing runner beans, making use of an already recycled material and finding a reuse for it – pushing it further up the waste hierarchy.
Reconomy group company, Valpak, also submitted several of their own entries and three of their employees were collectively awarded second place with an excellent video entry that can be found on the Reconomy Facebook.
This year Recycle Week celebrates its 17th anniversary, bringing together the nation to encourage and promote recycling. Last year (2018) was the largest ever Recycle Week, reaching an audience of 14.6 million people through various content and events running across the country.
This year’s theme, is designed to encourage everyone to act upon recycling opportunities, take the issues into their own hands and inspire more sustainability practices.
As the industry leaders in outsourced waste management, Reconomy consistently encourage staff to take recycling into their own hands and ensure that we also practice what we preach.
