Reconomy supports Recycle Week 2016
Monday 12th September – Sunday 18th September is Recycle Week 2016, and Reconomy is proud to support this annual event, which encourages everyone in the UK to improve their recycling habits.
This year’s theme is The Usual Suspects’ and seeks to highlight those items that many people don’t always realise can be recycled. This includes aerosol cans, foil trays, perfume or aftershave bottles and toilet roll tubes.
These items can regularly be found in homes or some businesses, and can have a major positive impact on the environment if recycled instead of being disposed of with other forms of mixed waste.
If everyone in the UK recycled one aluminium deodorant aerosol can, enough energy could be saved to vacuum over 480,000 homes for a year. Alternatively, if everyone in the UK recycled one air freshener aerosol can, enough energy could be saved to run a fridge for over 91,000 homes for a year!
As the UK’s leading provider of outsourced waste management services, Reconomy is well aware of the crucial role that recycling can have on preserving the environment. Last year Reconomy managed approximately 3million tonnes of waste, successfully diverting 93% of this away from landfill by pursuing every available opportunity to recycle or reuse materials.
Paul Cox, Managing Director of Reconomy, said: “We all have a responsibility to protect the environment and Recycle Week is a fantastic way to highlight some of the many ways that we can maximise opportunities to do this.”
