Volunteering day that will definitely bear fruit!
As part of our commitment to creating social value we were delighted to join our customer, Colas Limited, in clearing an overgrown area in the Dorothy Parkes Community Allotment.
The Dorothy Parkes Community Centre has been supporting the Bearwood community in Sandwell for the last 22 years. The Centre already managed one community allotment but was recently awarded a grant to take on a second allotment which will allow them to grow more fruit and vegetables and help local people experiencing food poverty by providing fresh produce for foodbanks. The allotment is also used by local primary schools to teach the next generation about the importance of bio-diversity.
The second allotment was however so overgrown until a team from Colas, which included our Business Development Manager, Jeremy Fidlin, spent a day clearing the area. As a result, it is now ready to be cultivated so more local residents will have access to healthy and organic fruit and vegetables.
Rob Bruce, CEO of Dorothy Parkes Centre, said:
You can see the significant difference you and your colleagues made to the plot today.
Can you please pass on my thanks on behalf of everybody associated with our Centre to your team for their efforts in hot conditions today.
