Metal waste collection and disposal for businesses

Metal is trade, bought and sold as a commodity, making metal waste collection is an essential part of a business’ overall waste management. Here at Reconomy, we specialise in the collection, processing, and recycling of all types of metal waste. Whether you’re a large-scale construction site or a big factory part of a manufacturing process, we provide efficient and sustainable services to manage your metal waste responsibly.

Metal waste refers to any surplus metal materials, such as scrap metal, old appliances, WEEE, or construction debris. These metals can be recycled and reused, reducing the need for new raw materials in the materials economy.

Most metals can be recycled, including:

Ferrous Metals

Steel, iron, and cast iron.

Non-Ferrous Metals

Aluminium, copper, brass, lead, and zinc.

Precious Metals: Gold, silver, and platinum from electronics and jewellery.

Ferrous Metals

Contain iron and are magnetic. Examples include steel and cast iron.

Non-Ferrous Metals

Do not contain iron and are non-magnetic. Examples include aluminium, copper, and brass. Both types of metals are recyclable, but their recycling processes will differ, so segregation is crucial.

Anyone who transports, buys, sells, or disposes of scrap metal must obtain a Waste Carriers Licence from the Environment Agency. This license is a legal requirement to ensure that waste is handled and transported in a compliant and environmentally sound manner. It’s a legal requirement to ensure your waste provider has a valid waste carriers license.

When organising a collection of your metal waste, you need to establish whether the metals are ferrous or Non-ferrous. This can be done using a magnet. Ferrous are magnetic and Non-Ferrous are not.

Reconomy will accept a wide range of metal waste materials and help you find the most sustainable route possible, including but not limited to:

Ferrous Metals

Iron, steel, and other metals containing iron.

Non-Ferrous Metals

Aluminum, copper, brass, and more.

WEEE waste

Electronics that contain valuable metals like gold, silver, and palladium. Many types of WEEE Waste will fall under hazardous waste management but some items can be deconstructed and recovered as metal. If you are unsure what camp your waste falls into, please contact us and confirm the waste before organising any services.
