Captain Tom’s Courtyard opens at Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital

Following our Say Thanks to the NHS Summer Campaign last year where we raised over £14,600 for the renovation of a disused courtyard at Princess Royal’s Hospital, we are pleased to share the unveiling of the courtyard.

The ceremony at Princess Royal Hospital also marked another landmark – the NHS’s 73^rd birthday. An unused courtyard at the hospital has been transformed, thanks to the contribution from Reconomy, into a haven for rest and reflection for staff at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trusts (SaTH), which runs PRH, as well as patients and visitors.

A competition ran in conjunction with the Shropshire Star to redesign the area. This was won by Cardio-respiratory scientist Emma Mayho. The courtyard was cleared and landscaped and now features seating pods, private areas, lighting and flower beds with curved willow fences. It has been named Captain Tom’s Courtyard to recognise his fundraising efforts for the NHS during the pandemic.

As part of the development, redundant air conditioning units were collected and the rebate value donated back into the charity pot for future requirements.
